I tend to read mysteries based on character and plot, but the detail and scene setting in A Christmas Malice really elevate this story and bring it to life. It’s a wonderful, often poetic read as well as an intriguing puzzle. All the characters are very well drawn, with both human warmth and human frailty, making the happier ending (for some of them) all the more welcome.
The cast of characters is not long, yet the perpetrator still comes as a surprise, and there are many other twists and turns as well. Highly recommended. Inspector Abbs is a great detective: with enough personality to make him engaging, but never overshadowing the rest of the cast and suspects.
